Heart Break City: Gus Johnson Out At MSG

By Marcus Vanderberg

Gus Johnson, the radio play-by-play voice of the New York Knicks, won’t be calling games this season for the MSG Network.

According to Phil Mushnick of the NY Post, MSG executives were upset that Johnson missed Knicks games for other broadcasting obligations on CBS and Showtime.

“Gus is a very talented broadcaster, and has been a part of the MSG Network family for a long time,” MSG said in a statement. “We wish him all the best and will miss having him on our team.”

Johnson, 43, has been calling Knicks games on the radio since the 1997-98 season and a fill-in for Mike Breen on the MSG telecasts.

Mike Crispino is expected to replace Johnson. Crispino has been calling games and working for MSG TV since 1992.

Check back next week as SportsNewser is scheduled to interview the exciting play-by-play announcer.
