By Alex Weprin

Former CBS News anchor Harry Smith will make his NBC News anchoring debut tonight. Smith will be filling in for Brian Williams on “NBC Nightly News.”

Smith joined NBC News in July as a correspondent on the upcoming primetime newsmagazine being helmed by Williams, and he made his first NBC appearance August 4 with a “letter to President Obama”:

While it will be Smith’s first time anchoring “Nightly,” he is no stranger to the evening newscast. He was a regular fill-in on the “CBS Evening News” before departing the Tiffany Network.
