Greta Van Susteren on Passion for Jailed U.S. Marine: ‘In My DNA’ as Former Lawyer

By Jordan Chariton

Greta Van Susteren interviewed jailed U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, who’s been jailed in Mexico for close to two months, last night on “On the Record.”

“I’m hoping maybe a month I’ll be out of here, that would be great,” Tahmooressi told Greta, adding that if it takes longer, it will be “sad and lonely.”  Greta urged viewers to sign a White House petition demanding Tahmooressi’s release. The Afghanistan War veteran was imprisoned when, according to him,  he accidentally crossed into Mexico possessing three firearms.

“It’s in my DNA as a former criminal defense lawyer,” Van Susteren tells TVNewser about her passion for this story, which drove her to go to the Mexican prison Tahmooressi is jailed in. “I did an old-fashioned gumshoe investigation so I could see for myself and I understand how Sgt. Tahmooressi could make an accidental turn. I’m doing my job putting a spotlight on an issue.”
