Meteorologists, assignment editors, correspondents and producers are beginning their week reporting on a new tropical depression, and could end it reporting on a hurricane. Tropical depression #4 has formed off the coast of Africa. NBC Weather Plus meteorologist Jackie Meretsky says the storm (which will be called Dean if it gets to that point) “could strengthen considerably, so this could become a hurricane in about four days.”

Then there’s Hurricane Flossie in the Pacific Ocean, heading for the big island of Hawaii. The storm is projected to skirt the southern part of the island by tomorrow night as a “major hurricane.”
