Gov. Chris Christie Makes Morning Show Rounds

By Chris Ariens

If you watched one of the network morning shows today — any of them — you probably caught some or all of Gov. Chris Christie. Not playing favorites, the New Jersey Governor went on “Today,” “Good Morning America” and “CBS This Morning.”

Christie began his morning in Times Square at ABC’s studio where the interview was taped at 6:15am. He then headed to West 57th Street for a sit-down on “CBS This Morning” before returning to midtown and Rockefeller Center for a live interview on “Today.” All three interviews aired at the same time. NBC’s at 7:05am; CBS’s began at 7:06 and ABC’s at 7:07.

A network insider who spoke with the Governor tells TVNewser, Christie got a charge out of the network trifecta. Getting in front of a national audience of about 12 million was a bonus.

Christie talked Hurricane Sandy relief, the do-nothing Congress and his own political ambitions. Christie told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, if he runs for president in 2016, “I will be more ready than I was in 2012 because I will have done my job for longer and hopefully gotten better.” And telling CBS’ Charlie Rose that being Governor suits him just fine: “I think what’s going to happen in the future is that governors, 30 Republican governors out of 50 now, they’re going to be the ones who are going to be dictating what the agenda of our party is because we’re actually getting things done.” As for the gridlock plaguing Washington DC, Christie told NBC’s Matt Lauer, “We’ve now done what the president wanted to do. He wanted to raise taxes on the highest earning Americans and Republicans have now acquiesced to that, now it’s time for the president to stand up and say, ‘Here’s what I’m going to do on spending.'”

Christie is also on the cover of next week’s TIME magazine, revealed on the “Today” show.
