‘Good Morning America’s’ Lara Spencer Adds a Side Job: Reality Show Host

By Alex Weprin

“Good Morning America” co-anchor Lara Spencer is adding a side job to her portfolio this Fall, when she pulls double duty as the host of HGTV reality show “Flea Market Flip.” Spencer will host the competition series, which sees two teams track down items at flea markets, fix them up, and then try to flip them for profit.

While landing a gig on one of the network morning shows is about as cushy a job as it gets in the TV business, it is pretty common for anchors to make some extra dough on the side.

“GMA’s” Sam Champion hosts the weekly syndicated “Sea Rescue.” Meredith Vieira hosted “Who Wants Top Be a Millionaire?” throughout her run on NBC’s ‘Today,” while her colleague Al Roker has a mini-television empire in Al Roker Productions, which produces many TV series on a number of networks. On CBS, Charlie Rose co-anchors “CBS This Morning,” while also his eponymous PBS interview program at night.
