Going beyond the Ground Zero Mosque, CNN documents ‘The Muslims Next Door’

Another of Soledad O’Brien’s “In America” documentaries premieres tonight on CNN.

“Unwelcome: The Muslims Next Door” explores what happens when a Tennessee town tries to keep a Mosque from being built. “What we found reporting over several months in this small southern city is really a metaphor for what we’re seeing across the country,” O’Brien tells TVNewser. “Also, our documentary raises the question of who is an American. Many of the Muslims we spoke to in Murfreesboro say what bothered them the most, beyond the frightening acts of vandalism and threatening phone calls, was the fact that some of their neighbors were telling them to ‘go back home.’ But as they say in the documentary: ‘this is our home and people have to realize this.’”

“Unwelcome: The Muslims Next Door” debuts tonight at 8pmET.
