Gloria Borger “Going Home” To CBS

Following up on yesterday’s brief item, D.C. media veteran Gloria Borger is returning to CBS News as the network’s “national political correspondent.”

“I’m really excited about it,” Borger told TVNewser yesterday. “I loved my two years at Capital Report. I thought we had a great show. This gives me an opportunity to build on what I learned as a broadcaster during those two years.”

She stressed her experience as a reporter, including more than 20 years writing for newsmagazines. She’ll continue writing for U.S. News & World Report on a biweekly basis. “I’ve always been a reporter, and I think that’s what CBS values, and I think what’s what Capitol Report valued about me too,” she said.

Borger first joined the Eye in 1997 as a panelist on “Face The Nation” and a special correspondent for CBS News.

“It really does feel like going home to me,” Borger said. “CBS is a wonderful place with a lot of terrific journalists. I’m look forward to going back there.”

Borger, who said she “can’t wait to get to work,” will begin her second stint with CBS on April 4th. She laughed at the suggestion that she could follow her friend Bob Schieffer and wind up behind the CBS Evening News anchor desk.

“I’m really looking forward to doing reporting, and hopefully coming up with some stories nobody else has,” she said. She’s hoping to pound the pavement and “take in the whole political scene as it develops toward the next presidential race.”
