George Stephanopoulos made his first appearance as anchor of “Good Morning America” today on ABC.

“It’s the dawn of a new day. New hopes. New dreams. And you can see a new “GMA” co-anchor,” said Robin Roberts at the top of Stephanopoulos’ first broadcast.

“It’s great to be here,” he told viewers.

Roberts joked to Sam Champion, “When did we become the old guard here?”

The “This Week” host remained in familiar territory with his first story, interviewing Obama senior advisor David Axelrod. Axelrod said, “It’s weird to talk to you on a Monday morning and not a Sunday morning.” Stephanopoulos replied, “It’s weird for me too.” At the end of the interview, Axelrod teased Stephanopoulos, saying White House staffers bought a new alarm clock for George.

New “GMA” newsreader Juju Chang also made her debut this morning quickly saying that she was “pleased and honored” to join the show before jumping right into the day’s headlines.
