Fusion’s Forum Aims to Go Beyond Prepared Talking Points

By Brian Flood

The Iowa Brown and Black Forum with the Democratic candidates for president airs tonight on Fusion tonight at 8 p.m. ET.  Jorge Ramos and Alicia Menendez will serve as moderators with Akilah Hughes and New York magazine writer Rembert Browne joining as questioners. Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley have confirmed their participation in the event.

“My generation is the largest and most diverse generation in our country’s history and Fusion is focused on giving a voice to the new American majority — that will be very clear in our conversations with the candidates,” Alicia Menendez told TVNewser. “As part of our election coverage, I’ve watched several of the debates with focus groups of young voters, and the number one thing I hear – from Republicans, Democrats and Independents – is that there hasn’t been enough attention paid in these formats to the issues they most care about.”

Fusion boss Isaac Lee described the panel as the most diverse of the election season. “Fusion is committed to elevating voices that reflect the diversity that makes our country strong,” Lee said in a statement last month.

“Our goal is to get the candidates to go beyond their prepared talking points and really grapple with what would be some of the most pressing issues of their first term in office,” Menendez said.
