Fox’s Shepard Smith Calls CNN bin Laden Story ‘Embarrassing’

Fox News Channel’s heavily hyped exclusive interview with Robert O’Neill, the Navy SEAL believed to have killed Osama bin Laden, premiered last night. Part II airs tonight.

On Shepard Smith’s show Tuesday, correspondent Peter Doocy talked about his reporting for the two-night special. Smith noted other networks scrambled to get stories featuring O’Neill on air ahead of Fox, calling out CNN in particular. “Once we announced we’re doing this, of course everybody and their mother jumped on this. CNN’s treating things over there as breaking news. It’s really kind of embarrassing for them, I thought.”

Smith also called competing news networks “hater channels” for reporting criticism of O’Neill — some from fellow SEALS — who think O’Neill has acted inappropriately in revealing his role in the covert mission.
