Fox News: Unscientific Debate Polls Should Be Avoided

By Mark Joyella

Since Monday night’s presidential debate, Donald Trump has made several references to polls naming him the clear winner in the face-off with Hillary Clinton.

“Such a great honor,” Trump said on Twitter. “Final debate polls are in–and the MOVEMENT wins!” The message came complete with a graphic showing a series of polls from Time, The Drudge Report, CNBC and a Fox television station in San Diego:

But as a Fox News executive reminded staff at the network Tuesday, those polls are not scientific. “Online ‘polls’ like the one on Drudge, Time, etc. where people can opt-in or self-select … are really just for fun,” said Fox News vice president of public opinion research Dana Blanton, in a memo obtained by Business Insider. “These quickie click items do not meet our editorial standards.”
