The Fox News Channel’s politics Twitter account has been hacked. A series of 6 tweets sent overnight reported the death of President Obama in Iowa.
Jeff Misenti, vice president and general manager of Fox News Digital, said FoxNews.com is working with Twitter to address the situation as quickly as possible.
“We will be requesting a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorized access into FoxNews.com accounts,” Misenti said.
The account has about 34,000 followers. AllTwitter reports, hacking group “Scriptkiddies” has claimed credit for the hack.
It appears the hijackers first took control of the @foxnewspolitics account at or around 1.56 ET, writing a faux tweet about how they’d “just regained full access to our Twitter and email. Happy 4th.” However, prior to this there had been no update from @foxnewspolitics since June 30, so the hack may have taken place before this.
The general Fox News account (@foxnews) was not hacked.
