Fox Bid on Next Four Olympics

Fox Sports wants to broadcast the next four Olympics so the company made two separate bids to the International Olympic Committee Monday — one containing their bid to air the 2014 and 2016 games, and a second containing their bid to air the ’14, ’16, ’18 and ’20 Games.

Fox Sports Media Group Chair & CEO David Hill said it makes financial sense to procure four Games because of the huge outlay for Games-related equipment.

“It’s simpler. … You have to make a major investment in technical hardware, which is (a capital expense), so anyone will tell you if you’re going to amortize that over four rather than two, you’re financially in a much better place.”

NBC paid $2 billion for the 2010 and 2012 Games, and bidding for the 2014 and 2016 Games is expected to exceed that. NBC and ESPN will be making their respective pitches to the IOC on Tuesday.
