After three years as the executive in charge of Vice News Tonight on HBO, Madeleine Haeringer is returning to NBC News.
Haeringer left Vice News in October shortly after the HBO evening newscast came to an end, and she returns to NBC News senior executive producer, reporting directly to NBC News chief Noah Oppenheim.
Her first assignment will be to run the network’s new partnership with Quibi. NBC News announced in July that it will be producing daily news programs (morning and evening) and two weekend shows for Quibi, the mobile-first content startup set to launch in April 2020.
Haeringer has been tasked with managing production, staffing, strategy and content on the new platform.
She will also be working closely with Dateline executive producer Liz Cole, who has also been involved with the Quibi partnership from the beginning.
“If there’s a passion for doing smart news and quite frankly putting the resources behind it, that to me is a good bet,” Haeringer told The Hollywood Reporter.
Assigning Haeringer to this role makes sense. She has relevant experience launching a news program meant for younger viewers. NBC News programming for Quibi will target millennials and Gen Xers, as was the case with Vice Tonight on HBO.
Before an Emmy-winning run at Vice News (Vice News Tonight on HBO was by far the most-awarded evening newscast during its three-year run), Haeringer spent 19 years at NBC News in a variety of roles, including as ep of MSNBC news coverage, ep of international news and senior producer of NBC Worldwide News.
Over the course of her career, she was more than twenty Emmys, seven Edward R. Murrow Awards, four Peabodys, two Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Awards and three Overseas Press Club awards.
