Former Nightly News Producer Finds Himself in the News

David Doss, a former NBC News, ABC News and CNN executive producer, has found himself the subject of the news.

Doss now heads up the A&E show Live P.D. The series follows law enforcement as they arrive at crime scenes.

As NBC’s Gabe Gutierrez reported on Nightly News tonight “the latest episode is causing controversy after a camera crew rolled up to a crime scene in Columbia, South Carolina. The shooting victim’s mother said she learned of [her son’s] death on national television.”

Doss, who was once executive producer of Nightly News, was back on the show tonight defending the series. “It’s not a reality program. It’s not unscripted television. We’re a live documentary program,” says Doss.

After leaving NBC News in 2000, Doss moved to ABC News where he ep’d Primetime. He moved to CNN in 2005 where he oversaw AC360 for 5 years. He then moved to Al Jazeera America in 2013.
