Former MSNBC Exec Returns to Peacock as News Boss for Telemundo

Ramon Escobar, former Vice President of Live News Programming for MSNBC, is returning to the NBCU fold as Executive Vice President of Telemundo Network News.

Escobar, who most recently served as VP of consulting for Sucherman Consulting Group, was an instrumental part of the Telemundo transition team when NBC bought the network and station group in 2001. He went on to become Senior EVP of Entertainment for the Spanish-language network.

Escobar joined MSNBC in 2000 after working as VP of News at NBC O&O WTVJ.

MIAMI – February 8, 2010 – Telemundo, a leading producer of high-quality content for Hispanics in the U.S. and audiences around the world, announced today that Ramon Escobar has been named Executive Vice President of Telemundo Network News. The appointment builds on the continued roll out of a comprehensive strategy for the Telemundo’s news division, which was announced in December 2009 by Don Browne, Telemundo President, to whom he will report.

In his new role, Escobar will oversee all of Telemundo’s network news operations. He will develop strategic plans for all news properties while supervising the news programming at the network. In addition, he will oversee the network’s domestic and international news bureaus as well as work to develop on-air talent and communications.

Escobar brings to Telemundo an impressive background and experience in media having served as media executive in News and Entertainment, cable, network and local TV in English and Spanish. He joins Telemundo from Sucherman Consulting Group, one of the leading media consulting firms in the country, where he was Vice President of consulting for the last two years. He worked with several major media clients in programming, news and digital media strategy. His clients included ABC News, Discovery, Animal Planet, TLC, AOL, BBC America and Rainbow Communications. Before joining Sucherman in 2007, Escobar was Senior Executive Vice President of Entertainment for Telemundo, where he led the network’s programming and production strategy. He oversaw the development, production and launch of more than 35 primetime shows and specials.

Prior to that, Escobar worked as Senior Vice President of News & Creative Services for the Telemundo Station Group. In this position, he led all news operations and promotions for Telemundo’s 15 owned and operated stations. He previously directed the local and network news integration effort during NBC’s purchase of Telemundo.

Escobar’s journalism experience is extensive having served as Vice President of Live News Programming for MSNBC and Executive Producer of Daytime Programming for MSNBC. Escobar also has served as Vice President and News Director of NBC’s owned & operated station in Miami, WTVJ/NBC 6. He has been a frequent guest faculty member at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies in St. Petersburg, FL focusing on Ethics, Newsroom Management, News Producing and Reporting.
