Former CNBCer Mike Hegedus Joins CBS Chicago

Former CNBC correspondent Mike Hegedus, who left the network earlier this year and joined a p.r. firm’s video production practice, is joining Chicago’s CBS O&O as a morning news anchor.

WBBM-TV announced today that Hegedus will be one of four hosts of a completely re-vamped morning newscast, set to debut in February.

By introducing an “ensemble” format that does away with the local news habit of two-anchors-at-the-desk, the station is taking a page from cable news, like a cross between ESPN’s SportsCenter, CNBC’s Squawk Box, and FBN’s Imus in the Morning.

Veteran Windy City sports broadcasters Dan Jiggetts and Mike North, financial expert Terry Savage of the Chicago Sun-Times, and Hegedus — who will focus on regional business issues — make up an ensemble, which, if successful, could be replicated in local markets across the nation.
