Remember the good old days, when confidential sources would have their identities protected by a opaque screen and a light, or a blurred face?
Welcome to TV news in the 21st century. CBS News wanted to protect the identity of “Mark Owen,” the Navy SEAL who wrote the book detailing the Osama Bin Laden raid for his interview with “60 Minutes.” To do so, they didn’t turn to a computer or screen: they turned to Hollywood.
“We hired some of the best makeup people, who do all of the big Hollywood movies and special effects,” “CBS Evening News” anchor Scott Pelley said on “CBS This Morning.” “I had hours and hours of meetings with this man over the last many weeks, but when he walked onto the set to shoot the interview I didn’t recognize him.”
Check out the clip below. Can you tell if any special effects makeup was used?
