Following ‘Today’ Story, Florida Traps 740lb Black Bear

By Chris Ariens

Central Florida’s got a bear problem. In fact, four people were attacked in separate incidents last year. So, last week, NBC News sent intrepid Florida-based correspondent Kerry Sanders in search of them. Sanders and his crew came upon a 740-pound black bear strolling through a family’s front yard in Longwood, FL, north of Orlando. Watch:

Sanders used that clip in his story last Friday on “Today,” which Florida wildlife officials happened to be watching. It took 5 days, but officials found the bear, trapped it and had it “humanely euthanized” on Wednesday.

The 740-pound black bear is 100 pounds heavier than the largest bear ever hunted or trapped in the state.
