FNC’s Shepard Smith Recalls Oklahoma City Bombing

By Brian Flood

Fox News Channel’s Shepard Smith was a young reporter when the Oklahoma City bombing occurred on April 19, 1995. As the 20th anniversary approaches, the FNC anchor discussed covering the devastation for Fox News Edge twenty years ago.

“I’ve covered a lot of really awful things over the past 25 years, but I don’t have as strong a memory of anything as I do of that Oklahoma City bombing,” Smith said. “The smell in the air that just changed into something so acrid and indescribable. And I remember, and I wonder if the emotions of that time still bubble up every year if that smell comes back to you?”

The mother of Baylee Almon, the one year old who was killed in bombing, was featured on his show today. Smith was also chosen as a media witness to Timothy McVeigh’s execution in Terre Haute, Indiana in 2001 for FNC.
