FNC’s Megyn Kelly Explains How She Landed Duggar Interview

By Brian Flood

Anticipation is building for Megyn Kelly’s interview with Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, which is being taped this afternoon. It will be the family’s first interview since their son Josh admitted to sexually molesting at least five young girls when he was a teenager. New details emerged today that show Josh Duggar confessed to his father on three separate occasions.

The interview airs tonight at 9pmET on The Kelly File, with an extended version airing Friday night. While the ratings could be massive, Kelly told TheWrap that this won’t be her last big “get.” When asked how she landed the interview, Kelly told TheWrap that it was a straightforward process:

When I spoke with the Duggar family, I said, ‘I am going to ask you the tough questions. You will not be getting a pass on the tough questions. But I will be fair, and you will be permitted to answer and offer context.’

Kelly expressed a similar sentiment to Deadline, saying “I reached out to them and made the case I was the best for the job.” She went on to say:

I specifically told their representative, ‘You know my reputation. I’ve never been accused of giving anyone a pass and I’m not going to give them a pass. If you want a soft place to fall, I’m not your person… I think it’s a service to you to have me ask tough questions’

In addition to the Duggar family, Nicole Wallace and Joy Behar of The View feel Kelly was the right choice.

“I think it’s smart that they are going to Megyn Kelly and they’re fools if they think that Megyn Kelly’s going to go easy on them,” said Wallace on the show. “She’s tough,” Behar added.
