FNC’s Greta Van Susteren Defends Wife of MSNBC’s Chris Matthews

By Brian Flood

On The Record host Greta Van Susteren took to her Gretawire blog to defend the wife of MSNBC’s Chris Matthews. So, Liz Matory is running for Congress in Maryland against Kathleen Matthews, a former news anchor who happens to be married to one of Van Susteren’s direct competitors. Despite squaring off against Matthews everyday at 7 p.m. ET, the FNC host wasn’t happy when she noticed the following:

This morning I picked up the Washington Post and read this ” …[Kathleen Matthews] was called out as ‘a millionaire white woman’ by independent Liz Matory, who also accused Matthews of lack of support from people of color.”  [I am making the assumption that the WAPO correctly quoted Matory.]

I don’t know about you — but let’s put the shoe on the other foot.  What do you think people would say if Matthews had referred to or “called out”  Matory as a ‘black’ woman?  I know what I would say — the same as I am saying now about this racist remark about Matthews and it is racist because its intent is obvious.  I wasn’t born yesterday and I know you were not, either.

Van Susteren went on to say, “I don’t know if Matthews is a good candidate or not but she should at least not be subject to this treatment.  I am not telling you to vote for her or not to vote for her — but I am telling Matory to stop the racist comments.  It is obvious.”
