FNC Has More Viewers Than CNN/MSNBC Combined During Museum Shooting Breaking News

By SteveK

All three cable news networks were in wall-to-wall coverage yesterday from 1:20pmET through the 4pmET hour, reporting on the shooting at Washington D.C.’s Holocaust Museum.

Fox News was the most-watched cable news network during that period, ahead of CNN and MSNBC combined, each hour, in Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo. CNN was #2 in each category, except 3pmET in the demo when MSNBC finished 2nd.

From 1-5pmET, FNC averaged 1,322,000 Total Viewers and 326,000 in the demo, followed by CNN (824,000 and 126,000) and MSNBC (311,000 and 93,000).

Compared to the year-to-date 1-5pmET average (M-F), FNC was up 8% in Total Viewers and 18% in the demo. Despite the breaking news, CNN and MSNBC did not see gains in the ratings. CNN was flat in Total Viewers and down 39% in the demo, and MSNBC was down 15% in both categories.
