First Glance: HBO's Runnin' Rebels of UNLV

College basketball fans who can’t wait for the start of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament next week will have two documentaries to choose from in ESPN’s Fab Five and HBO’s Runnin’ Rebels of UNLV.

When HBO started production of Runnin’ Rebels of UNLV last November, it sounded like the network had another hit documentary on its hands.

And while you can’t really go wrong with any HBO documentary, Runnin’ Rebels of UNLV left this college basketball fan wanting more time dedicated to the teams from the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons.

In order to get to the two glory years, you have to sit through the back story of head coach Jerry Tarkanian and his UNLV programs of the 1970s and 1980s.

Larry Johnson was noticeably absent from the documentary and Las Vegas native Jimmy Kimmel shockingly received the most face time out of anyone.

Runnin’ Rebels of UNLV airs Saturday night at 9:30 p.m.ET on HBO.
