Final Numbers Show Preakness Ratings Up Over Last Year

By Cam Martin

Overnight ratings from Nielsen said ratings for the Preakness on NBC were down 6 percent over last year, but final numbers actually demonstrated that ratings were up five percent from 2010, with the race portion of the broadcast (5:56-6:41 p.m. ET) attracting 8.8 million viewers.

It was the second most-watched Preakness in the last five years, only topped in 2009 when filly Rachel Alexandra – with jockey Calvin Borel – beat Mine That Bird, which Borel had ridden to victory in the Kentucky Derby.
