Experian Hitwise: Fox News’ America’s Newsroom, TBS’ Conan Rising

By David Cohen

Fox News Channel’s America’s Newsroom and MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews continued to wrestle for third place on Experian Hitwise’s list of cable-news-show websites, with America’s Newsroom claiming the spot for the week ending April 30. The top two were unchanged for the third consecutive week: Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor, and MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show.

The top two late-night talk-show sites were also unchanged from the week ending April 23 — Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report — but TBS’ Conan surged into third place, bumping NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

As usual, there was no change in the morning-news-show rankings: NBC’s Today, ABC’s Good Morning America, and CBS’ The Early Show.

CBS, Fox, and ABC were the top three broadcast-network websites for the third week in a row, and ditto for the top two broadcast-show sites, Fox’s American Idol and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. CBS’ NCIS bumped network sibling Survivor out of the No. 3 spot. Shows moving within the top 25 were NBC’s The Voice (to No. 4 from No. 11), and NBC’s The Office (9 from 19).

The top three adults-only cable-show sites were unchanged from the previous week: Comedy’s South Park, MTV’s 16 & Pregnant, and The Daily Show. Top 25 movers were VH1’s Mob Wives (11 from 50), and MSNBC’s The Last Word (21 from 41).

When combining broadcast and cable shows, American Idol surged past Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants to claim first place, dropping SpongeBob to No. 2. Third place went to South Park. The only top 25 mover was The Voice (9 from 35).
