Evening News Ratings: Week of October 15

The three evening newscasts have lost more than a million viewers in the past year. Of the three broadcasts, only the “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley” saw an uptick in viewers, +1%, year-over-year a week which included coverage of the death of Muammar Gaddafi. All three are down in the demo.

“NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams,” #1 in the evenings, and #2 “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” are both down -7% in viewers and they are down -9% and down -17%, respectively, in younger viewers. Meanwhile, “Evening News” hasn’t been this close in the demo to “World News” since Sept. 2006.

Compared to the same week in 2008, the last presidential election cycle, “Nightly” and “Evening News” are up in total viewers, while “World News” is down. All three broadcasts are down in A25-54 viewers.
