Evening News Ratings: Week of June 28

By kevin

“NBC Nightly News” was the most-watched evening news program last week.* “Nightly” was the only newscast to grow week-to-week, but those numbers are likely deceiving (See note below).

“CBS Evening News” dipped below the 5 million mark again and was down, week-to-week in both categories. “ABC World News” was flat in viewers, but down slightly in the demo.

All three newscasts were down significantly from the same week one year prior.

*Note: On Thursday and Friday, “NBC Nightly News” was coded as “Nitely News” in the Nielsen ratings (similar to last summer) and the newscast was therefore excluded from the average over those two lower-rated days heading into the holiday weekend while Brian Williams was out. ABC and CBS averages are based on all five days. Diane Sawyer was out Friday for ABC. Harry Smith anchored the CBS newscast from the Gulf Monday and Tuesday while Scott Pelley was in for Katie Couric Wed-Fri.
