Evening News Ratings: Week of June 24 & Q2 2013

Here’s the challenge for the “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley:” the broadcast just had its best second quarter among total viewers since 2007. But was actually down -3% among younger viewers, year-over-year. The Pelley broadcast, which finishes third among its evening news competitors, had the most growth (+8%) among total viewers when compared to Q2 2012.

“NBC Nighlty News with Brian Williams” came in first in both measurements for the 23rd consecutive quarter. The broadcast also saw slight growth compared to Q2 2012: +2% in total viewers, +1% in younger viewers.

“ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” was also up +2% in total viewers and was flat in the demo, vs. Q2 2012.

Compared to the same week last year all three broadcasts were down in younger viewers: NBC was down -17%, ABC was down -1% and CBS was down -8%. NBC and ABC were also down in total viewers, both dropping -5%. Only “CBS Evening News” showed growth, up +6% year-over-year.

NBC is based on four days because of the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday, June 24. ABC and CBS are based on five days.
