Evening News Ratings: Week of June 17

By Chris Ariens

As Summer heats up, viewers are cooling to the evening newscasts.

Last week, “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” led the way again, but that broadcast, as well as the “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley,” set all-time viewership lows among younger viewers.

NBC’s 1.901 million viewers and CBS’s 1.337M were the lowest draws for both shows in the A25-54 demo in more than 21 years – since at least the 1991-92 season. ABC’s “World News with Diane Sawyer” was down in the demo as well: -4% year-over-year.

While, “Evening News” saw a -17% drop in the demo year-over-year, it grew in total viewers by +2%. NBC and ABC were flat in total viewership vs. the same week last year.

Note: Due to the NBA Finals “World News” is based on three days (Mon, Wed, Fri). “Nightly News” is based on four days with Wednesday’s telecast removed from the average due to the Stanley Cup finals. CBS is based on five days.
