Evening News Ratings: Week of Jan. 1

ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir begins 2018 as the most-watched evening newscast while NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt continues its winning streak in the younger demo.

ABC is now seeing its largest season lead over Nightly News in 22 years – since the 1995-96 season. Compared to the same week last year ABC and NBC were up in total audience, with each topping 10 million viewers for the week. But both were down in the demo with ABC down -3 percent and NBC down -4 percent.

CBS Evening News with Jeff Glor was down year-over-year, down -7 percent in viewers and down -13 percent in the demo.

The three shows are based on four days (Tuesday–Friday), excluding Monday, New Year’s Day, from the average.

The averages for the week of Jan. 1, 2018:

  • Total Viewers: ABC: 10.328M / NBC: 10.093M / CBS: 7.519M
  • A25-54 viewers: ABC: 2.216M / NBC: 2.372M / CBS: 1.557M
