By Chris Ariens

NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt took back the No. 1 spot in the evenings, edging ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir by just 70,000 viewers, or less than +1 percent.

Compared to the same week last year only the ABC newscast showed viewer growth: up +2 percent in viewers and up less than 1 percent in the A25-54 demo. Nightly News, which also won the demo–its 79th week in a row–, was down -3 percent in viewers and down -4 percent in the demo and the CBS Evening News with Jeff Glor was down -10 percent in viewers and down -19 percent in the demo.

On Friday, NBC and CBS retitled their programs, excluding them from the weekly average. ABC is based on 5 days, while NBC and CBS are based on 4 days.
