CNN’s 8 PM “In The Arena” host Eliot Spitzer is subjected to a Q&A in the NY Times Sunday Magazine. Interviewer Andrew Goldman asks him whether he ever fantasizes about being President of the United States:

I don’t talk to journalists about what I fantasize about.

I wasn’t really going there, but. . .

You thought that this one was fair game? Look, these days the fantasies are seeing headlines that say, “CNN at 8 o’clock is beating all the competition,” that we’re beating “American Idol” and O’Reilly.

Keep dreaming.

Yeah. I hate to admit it, but “American Idol” is a great show.

Goldman goes on to ask about whether Spitzer can joke about his prostitution scandal with people that appear on the show, as well as some other rumored political ambitions:

You recently said that you’d refuse to give a Shermanesque response on the question of whether you were going to run for New York mayor in 2013.

The only thing I can say is that I have not thought for a millisecond nor done anything to prepare for any sort of political campaign. I’m doing one thing and one thing only, and that’s trying to show the folks here at CNN and the audience that we can create something that will be worth watching.
