Elena Kagan Supports TV Cameras in Supreme Court

Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan was asked today by Herb Kohl (D-WI) whether she supports having television cameras present in the Supreme Court.

“I think it would be a terrific thing to have cameras in the courtroom,” she said. “When you see what happens there, it’s an inspiring sight.”

Kagan did acknowledge that some of the current justices are opposed to such a move and said she’s open to being persuaded. Video courtesy of the network that has the largest interest in that change, C-SPAN:

Most of the justices have expressed reservations about the idea. Justice Antonin Scalia once said, “If I thought that cameras in the Supreme Court would really educate the people, I would be all for it. But I think it would miseducate and misinform.” You can read more from each of the justices on this issue here.
