Edwards v. News Corp.: Another Write-Up

By Chris Ariens

The Chicago Tribune’s Phil Rosenthal reminds presidential candidate John Edwards that he might want to protest the next “media consolidation,” before the deal is done. On Thursday “Edwards urged Democrats to try to thwart Murdoch’s acquisition of (Dow Jones) two days after the controlling Bancroft family” gave in.

Edwards also urged other democrats not to take money from News Corp. execs. Rosenthal points out News Corp.’s publishing arm, HarperCollins paid Edwards “a $500,000 advance — and $300,000 for expenses” for a book deal. Edwards’ spokesman “told The Washington Post that Edwards’ proceeds were donated to charity and the other cash went to staff and vendors.”
