Ed Sheeran to Perform at Global Citizen Festival on MSNBC

MSNBCMSNBC will broadcast the 2015 Global Citizen Festival on September 26 to coincide with the annual United Nations General Assembly. Grammy-nominated artist Ed Sheeran has been announced as a performer, with other headliners to be announced next month.

The free concert will be held on the Great Lawn of New York’s Central Park and is part of the campaign to end extreme poverty by 2030. Emmy Award-winning producer Ken Ehrlich will oversee the event for MSNBC. Chris Martin of Coldplay will serve as a curator of the event.

This will be the fourth Global Citizen Festival and  Previous editions of the show have featured Jay Z, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, No Doubt, John Mayer, Carrie Underwood, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, The Roots, Tiesto, Foo Fighters and the Black Keys, among others.

TVNewser went backstage at last year’s event as MSNBC anchors Chris Hayes and Alex Wagner hosted an afternoon special, then anchored coverage into the night.
