Ed Schultz Suspended for ‘Slut’ Comment directed at Laura Ingraham

MSNBC has suspended Ed Schultz for one week after he called fellow radio talker Laura Ingraham a “slut” twice on his radio show yesterday.

“Like this right-wing slut Laura Ingraham… yeah, she’s a talk slut,” said Schultz who was critical of Ingraham’s take on President Obama drinking a beer in Ireland just hours after part of Joplin, MO was decimated by a tornado.

Ingraham, on Fox & Friends Tuesday said:

I do think of the disconnect and maybe the tone-deafness, if you will, of that devastation from Missouri. Heart-breaking pictures and then President Obama lifting the glass of Guinness. There’s something about that, that I think hits people in the gut.

Schultz will address the remarks on his show tonight, and then take a week off, unpaid. “Remarks of this nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” reads the MSNBC statement. (after the jump)

Schultz hosts his show weeknights at 10pmET. In the late ’90’s Ingraham hosted her own show on MSNBC called “Watch It.” Here’s what Schultz said yesterday:

FishbowlDC has a great wrap-up of how blogs have been reporting the news.

MSNBC management met with Ed Schultz this afternoon and accepted his offer to take one week of unpaid leave for the remarks he made yesterday on his radio program. Ed will address these remarks on his show tonight, and immediately following begin his leave. Remarks of this nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

This is not the first time Schultz has been reprimanded by bosses at MSNBC. Last September he got a talking to for calling New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie a cold-hearted fat slob. Schultz told me earlier this year that he’d not been instructed to tone down his “bar talk.”
