Ed Schultz: ‘I don’t think that the general discourse brought anybody to this situation. This is a mental illness issue’

By Chris Ariens

This morning MSBNC’s Ed Schultz dropped by the mediabistro studios for our Media Beat interview series. Schultz is one of just a few people in the nation who host a nationally syndicated radio talk show and a daily cable news show. Following the massacre in Tucson, critics have been pointing fingers at his profession for some of the heightened rhetoric and political polarization in the nation. Schultz, however, points his finger in one direction:

We also talked with Schultz about how he went from an All-American football player to TV host and about MSNBC’s rise in the ratings, and who really gets the credit for it. The full interview runs on TVNewser and on mediabeat.com the week of Jan. 24.
