Dr. Nancy Snyderman returned to NBC News this morning to report a story on depression in America. But the segment began with Matt Lauer pressing her on why she violated a voluntary quarantine following an Ebola reporting trip to Liberia.
“I’m very sorry for not only scaring my community and the country, but adding to the confusion,” said Snyderman. NBC’s Chief Medial Editor was spotted going for food near her Hopewell Township, NJ home October 9, even though she was under quarantine. A week earlier a member of her NBC News team, Ashoka Mukpo was diagnosed with Ebola.
“We knew our risks in our heads but didn’t really appreciate — and, frankly, we were not sensitive to how absolutely frightened Americans were,” said Snyderman. “Good people can make mistakes. I stepped outside the boundaries of what I promised to do and what the public expected of me, and for that, I’m sorry.”
Snyderman also says the crisis is not over in West Africa and that she “would go back tomorrow and so would my entire team.”
