Details Of Off The Record Journalists/DOJ Leak Meeting Leak

By Alex Weprin

So, that off the record meeting with Attorney General Eric Holder that a slew of news organizations boycotted? The details have, fittingly, leaked. The meetings were held in response to DOJ actions taken against journalists as part of an effort to find leakers.

Fox News, CBS News, CNN, the AP and the New York Times, among others, declined to attend as long as it was off the record. The Washington Post, Politico, The New Yorker, the NY Daily News and the Wall Street Journal attended yesterday’s meeting. ABC News, Bloomberg News, Tribune and others will meet with the Holder today.

Politico’s Dylan Byers has details:

Over the one-hour meeting, Holder stressed that the Justice Department had conducted its investigations out of a regard for national security, and said reporters had been subpoenaed out of a genuine threat to national security, according to those present. But Holder also indicated that the decision to label Fox News reporter James Rosen as an “aider and abettor” in a criminal investigation wasn’t necessary.
