Derrick Brooks Turned Down Offer To Stay At ESPN

By Marcus Vanderberg

We learned Thursday that Derrick Brooks and Warrick Dunn would not be returning to ESPN as contributors on First Take.

While we don’t know for sure why Dunn won’t be returning to ESPN, Brooks told USA Today that he was too busy to work for the network this season:

“They wanted me to come back but I couldn’t with everything else going on. It was just difficult to do,” Brooks said over the phone Thursday. Brooks added he continues to have an “excellent” relationship with the brass in Bristol.

The ex-Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebackers has also been in touch NFL Network and Versus about on-air roles. But he doesn’t want to commit unless he’s able to give it 100%.

“I don’t want to start something with all this other stuff going on. My word is my word and I keep my word,” Brooks said.

Along with charity and spending time with his family, Brooks was named president of the AFL’s Tampa Bay Storm in April.
