‘Daily Show’ Veterans Bringing Another Fake TV News Show To TV, This Time On Adult Swim

By Alex Weprin

A handful of veterans from “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” are bringing another fake TV news show television, but it will be on Turner’s Adult Swim, rather than Comedy Central.

At its upfront presentation and party in New York last night, the network announced its new series pickups, including a talk show hosted by comedian Eric Andre, the return of anime block Toonami and the new TV news parody “Newsreaders.”

“Newsreaders” is a parody of primetime TV newsmagaiznes like “60 Minutes” and “20/20,” but focusing on issues that no one really cares about. The network promises that it “will deliver unparalleled award-eligible reporting every week.” Full details are in the cutline, after the jump.

“Newsreaders” is actually a spinoff of the Adult Swim show “Children’s Hospital,” which stars “Daily Show” veteran correspondent Rob Corddry. You can watch the “Newsreaders” episode of “Children’s Hospital” here. Corddry will executive produce the new show, along with Jonathan Stern and comedian David Wain. Another “Daily Show” veteran, Jim Margolis, will serve as showrunner.

NEWSREADERS – Newsreaders is a satire of the network television newsmagazine genre, from the creative team behind Adult Swim’s highly successful comedy Childrens Hospital. Based upon the “Newsreaders” episodes of Childrens Hospital which aired during seasons two and three, Newsreaders will explore the vital issues that actually don’t affect us every day, from hard-hitting investigations to harder-hitting heartwarming profiles. Created by Childrens Hospital executive producers Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and the upcoming films Seeking a Friend for the End of the World and Butter), Jonathan Stern (The Ten; NTSF:SD:SUV::) and David Wain (Wanderlust, Wet Hot American Summer, Superjail!, upcoming films They Came Together and Dr. Dan), with Jim Margolis (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) serving as showrunner, Newsreaders will deliver unparalleled award-eligible reporting every week. The series is produced by Abominable Pictures and Warner Bros. Television Group’s Studio 2.0.
