Galley copies of Bill Carter‘s forthcoming “Desperate Networks” are “aready whizzing around New York and Hollywood,” Advertising Age reports. The book, set for a May 2 release, says “Katie Couric is thinking about her legacy, which is why she’s tempted to jump to CBS,” according to Claire Atkinson.

Here are some juicy details: “Mr. Carter relates that ABC’s appointment of Elizabeth Vargas and Bob Woodruff had Ms. Couric’s associates speculating that makes it easier for her to jump to CBS, since ‘That team she has to figure she can beat.’ Another friend relates that ‘The achievement of being the first woman solo anchor is a huge deal for her.’
