On “Charlie Rose,” CBS “Evening News” anchor Katie Couric discussed her experiences and many of the scenes she witnessed during the three days she spent in Haiti last week. Rose asked her if it was “important” or “necessary” for major anchors to be on the ground following a major disaster. She replied:
I think it sends a message to viewers that this is a really big, important story and we’re throwing a lot of resources at it, not only our anchor but a number of correspondents. So I think It probably adds to…the gravity of the situation for our viewers. Hopefully, I’m there because I’m a good journalist and good at my job and they think that if I go there I’ll get an important aspect of the story.

Interestingly, Couric’s former boss and close friend, NBCU president Jeff Zucker, also sat down with Rose last night to discuss his network’s late-night problems and said, “I think it’s the sign of a leader to step up and say, you know, when something’s not working, to have the guts to reverse it.” (More on Zucker’s appearance at FishbowlNY)
