Don’t be surprised if CNBC execs take a page from tonight’s “30 Rock.”
The NBC sitcom, named for the NBC headquarters, featured actress Elizabeth Banks playing fictional CNBC anchor Avery Jessup hosting a show called “Hot Box” — a cross between ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption” and CNBC’s “Fast Money” — with a not-ready-for-daytime title.
“30 Rock” has featured NBC News programs and personalities often lately. It’s network synergy that reverses the traditional promotional strategy of entertainment stars cozying up on a morning show couch.
NBC’s artist in residence Jon Bon Jovi was also on tonight’s show joking about his arrangement with NBC, including a bit which put a guitar-strumming Bon Jovi in Brian Williams’ studio for “Nightly News with Bon Jovi.”
A few weeks ago, Matt Lauer was featured and Williams has been on twice, and will be again soon.
