President Obama will address the nation to comment on the tragic shooting in Aurora Colorado at 11:20 AM ET. The President has spoken with the Mayor of Aurora, and released a statement saying that he was “shocked and saddened” by the shooting.
Mitt Romney released a statement saying “Ann and I are deeply saddened by the news of the senseless violence that took the lives of 15 people in Colorado and injured dozens more.”
CBS News says it will carry the address live, with Norah O’Donnell anchoring. NBC News will be taking the address, with Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer anchoring. We have reached out to ABC News and will update when we hear back from them.
Obviously the cable news channels will be covering the address live.
> Update: President Obama is speaking at a campaign event, and at 10:44 AM ABC, CBS, NBC and the cable news channels broke into programming to cover his remarks on the shooting.
“This morning we woke up to news of a tragedy that reminds us of all the ways we are united as one American family,” Obama said. “If there is anything to take away from this tragedy it is a reminder that life is very fragile, our time here is limited and precious.”
“There will be other days for politics, this a is a day for prayer and reflection,” Obama said, before asking for a moment of silence for victims of the tragedy.
Update: At 12:45 PM, Mitt Romney appeared at a campaign event, and addressed the shooting. The cable news channels all carried it.
“Our hearts break for the victims and their families,” Romney said
