CNN “Early Start” co-anchor Zoraida Sambolin took to Facebook to share photos following her double mastectomy.
“Good Morning Friends! First look at reconstruction stage one. My amazing fiancée on daily drain duty, documenting fluid output. Loving support is key,” Sambolin wrote.
The CNN anchor announced on-air that she would undergo the procedure in mid-May, as actress Angelina Jolie penned an op-ed announcing her decision to undergo the procedure preemptively. Sambolin’s decision was not preemptive.
“As a woman your sexuality and your breasts and how attached you are to them, right, as a woman,” Sambolin said at the time. “So at the end of the day, it’s really difficult to say that I’m thinking about this, that this is something that affects me when I have two kids I want to live for. At the end of day I’m going to cut off my arms if it means that I am going to live to see them and to see them grow up.”
