CNN’s W. Kamau Bell Nominated for Prime Time Emmy

By Chris Ariens

It’s not often that the host on a news network is nominated for a Prime Time Emmy. That’s because the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has its own awards for news programs, networks and hosts.

But this year, W. Kamau Bell is among the nominees in the Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program category. And he’ll have some stiff competition from Martha Stewart, nominated for VH1’s Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party; Gordon Ramsay, host of FOX’s Master Chef; Alec Baldwin, host of ABC’s Match Game; Heidi Klum & Tim Gunn, co-hosts of Lifetime’s Project Runway and RuPaul Charles, host of VH1’s RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Bell’s show, United Shades of America, is also up for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program.

CNN’s Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown is also nominated for several awards including Outstanding Informational Series/Special, and awards for writing, sound, and cinematography.
