CNN’s John Berman to Ben Carson: ‘I Actually Haven’t’ Been Charged With a Crime

In a truly strange moment during a CNN interview with Ben Carson Thursday, anchor John Berman clarified that he had not ever been charged with a crime.

“To be fair,” Berman wrote later on Twitter of the exchange, “Ben Carson didn’t suggest that I had committed a crime. Only that I had been charged. Phew.”

It happened when Carson, who has endorsed Donald Trump for president, was asked whether Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski should remain in his position after facing criminal charges of assault against a former Breitbart reporter, Michelle Fields.

Carson, whose work as a Trump surrogate has had a few bumps, said “a lot of people have been charged with various things, that doesn’t necessarily mean we need to demonize them. You’ve probably been charged with something too, maybe a misdemeanor or something. It doesn’t mean you’re an evil, horrible person.”

“I actually haven’t,” Berman said.
